Research conducted by Brunel University London showed that the NeuroBall improved wrist and shoulder movements – and overall quality of life – for stroke survivors.

My husband suffered a stroke in 2012 where he lost complete right side mobility. We were in the fortunate position of being able to pay privately for additional therapies but his right hand/arm has always been his weakest area. We have had the Neuroball for a few months now; he enjoys playing the games and can manage it by himself (which is a bonus for me!) and we have seen improvement in the mobility in his hand and overall arm strength. I highly recommend this product and the sooner you can start using it after a stroke the better.

Fun exercise for the upper Limb
I love the ability to practice exercises on my own and in my own time without needing to see a therapist for OT or going to hospital for physio. It's a great device for stroke survivors with hemiparesis but personally I require specific assistance in opening my hand, therefore most of the neuroball exercises are not relevant for me.
Frequently asked questions
You might be surprised by the movement you’re capable of when you begin using the NeuroBall. After using it for only a few minutes, you may notice your hand feeling a lot freer and suppler than you thought possible.
Users have told us that after a few days of using the NeuroBall, they’ve felt like their hand has “woken up” and started speaking to them again. You may notice your hand becoming more active in your everyday life.
After a few weeks of use, this re-activation of your hand in your daily routines is likely to become even more pronounced. You might find yourself being able to zip up your coat or touch your head. Research from Brunel University has shown that the NeuroBall has improved wrist and shoulder movement after just 7 weeks of training.
The NeuroBall is an orthotic device. That means it’s an appliance designed to stabilize or immobilize a body part, improve alignment, prevent deformities, protect against injury, and assist with motion or function. It keeps your hand open – in the position it should be – and ensures an ergonomic positioning for your thumb. It also allows you to train your wrist and fingers, which helps you to practice interacting with objects in the real world.
The NeuroBall is compatible with all Android smartphones and tablets (the minimum requirements are a Quad-core processor, 1.3 GHz and 2GB RAM.)
We recommend that you use a tablet rather than a smartphone, because our users tell us that the activities and games used to train your hand work much better on bigger screens.
The NeuroBall does also work on Chromebooks and Amazon Fire tablets, but there’s a bit more set up involved. Therefore, to save you time, we typically don’t advise you to buy a Chromebook or Amazon Fire tablet for use with the NeuroBall.
The device currently isn’t compatible with iPads, Macbooks or Windows laptops or PCs.
All of the different activities and games offered by the NeuroBall train the key movements you need to regain your independence and confidence in your everyday life.
For example you can train grasp and release, wrist flexion and extension, and forearm pronation and supination. These are all movements needed for everyday-life activities such as holding a glass of water, writing a letter, and opening a door knob.
You can even use the NeuroBall for bimanual training by holding it with both of your hands outside of its base.

The NeuroBall is a smart piece of training equipment - it's not a console for playing games! When we talk about games, we're referring to the range of engaging exercise activities that experts have designed to help you to achieve your goals.
These activities track your daily reps and constantly quantify your progress. The growing NeuroBall community find these activities help them to stay motivated. They often share their progress with one another within the app.
However, the NeuroBall does also come with a reps tracker which simply allows you to focus on your repetitions without playing any kind of game at all.
Clinical adviser Richard Sealy says that "if you are able to open your hand and hold a bottle of water, then you are able to use the NeuroBall.” That doesn’t mean fully grasping the bottle - rather, it means being able to open your hand enough such that you can place your fingers around the bottle.
The NeuroBall is suitable for a wide range of impairment levels. The device uses sensors that pick up even the smallest movement, and it adapts all of the activities to your current level of movement.
Then, as you progress and as your mobility improves, the activities become increasingly challenging.
If your mobility is extremely limited, we recommend starting out by using the NeuroBall for bimanual training.
The NeuroBall design is ambidextrous, namely you can use it with your left and your right hand. If you are using the NeuroBall with your left hand, we recommend for your maximum comfort to move the strap with the plastic buckle from the right side to the left. This is easily done by pulling the strap out of the NeuroBall and sliding it into the other side. The strap should be positioned as shown in the images below, with the buckle on the outside.
